My name is Charles H. Giffen. I live in Hudson, Wisconsin (since 2004, having previously lived in Charlottesville, Virginia for 35 years). A retired mathematician, I am now an active musician, mostly composing, arranging, editing (mostly early) music, singing, playing oboe. I'm the father of seven and grandfather of ten (so far). I'm active in the local Episcopal church (St. Paul's), especially in music.

I recently became manager of the Choral Public Domain Library where I have been an administrator since shortly after it was migrated to ChoralWiki in 2005, and I head the Maintenance and Improvement group there. I also have been a contributor (both in mathematics and music) at Wikipedia.

I have composed several hymn tunes, harmonizations and settings, and I have done a lot with the way hymns are handled at CPDL.

Hopefully, with some of my past experience, I can help improve the Hymnnal Wiki here.
