A workman in a village home
From Oremus Hymnal
A workman in a village home,
he toiled for daily bread,
he spent his strength in honest work,
with hands and heart and head.
A king uncrowned, though no man knew,
kingly he lived, and true.
He healed the deaf, the dumb, the blind,
the maimed, the sick, the sad;
he gave to them his Father's strength,
the radiant strength he had.
They followed him, a king uncrowned,
new life with him they found.
He rode into Jerusalem,
they hailed him, 'David's Son,'
yet, when in danger of his life,
they left him, every one.
Though crowned with thorns and crucified,
as Lord and king he died.
O King uncrowned, Leader of men,
O Captain, brave and true,
we praise you for your kingly life;
we would be kingly too.
To serve you now, O Savior King,
our lives to you we bring.
